RE: Being a considerate RV owner

I drove the company bus to a convention yesterday, on the way up one grade I passed another (church) bus, as I crested a rise I could see that there were about 20 vehicles lined up behind the other bus. The driver was not pulling over as required by law. Here in WA if there are 5 vehicles behind you you MUST pull ever to let them pass. Most RV's are considerate, some, just like other drivers, are not!

RE: Progressive Insurance

Had Progressive, they lived up to their name, they kept progressively rising their rates for no reason. the I got a broken windshield in the Jeep. Called and got a local quote, called Progressive. They REFUSED to give me the cost through them till I said (as coached) "I want to file a claim", then they gave me the price and it was far more than paying the whole thing ourselves. So I told them to forget it. Well, they didn't, they took away my no claim status, raised my rates due to the "claim" AND when I went looking for other insurance I found that they were reporting the "claim" to other ins. co's!! Called the State Ins Board, they said it wasn't illegal, but it was underhanded. The state was supposed to put them on their "watch list" but I never heard back.

RE: Code Reader Plug In

I don't think there is on on a vehicle that old. I'm thinking they became available on most vehicles in 1999. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.I think you're right, but maybe not on the actual year.

RE: Anyone Working at Home Online Business?

I am a CCNE and I run a network consulting business. 90% of my work is done in three places: 1. My office basement 2. My back deck (overlooking acres of oak trees) 3. Where ever my WW trailer is at. My customers include several small CATV businesses that provide Internet access via cable modems and several small to medium size businesses. I work with them to monitor and secure their networks, and help them in planning and building their infrastructure as their business grows. Naturally, in order to get into this business, you must be well versed in configuring high end routers and switches on networks that will have thousands of PC connected to it. One additional note - occasionally I do have to go on site with the customers. For those customers out of state, it is nice to be able to go camping at the same time you are working! Not bad, a couple years ago they were paying CCNA's about 150,000/yr in Portland OR area. Never took the test though to get certified, just like I never took the Civil Engineering board, just didn't need it for what I was doing. You know, easy stuff like setting up SAN's for Freightliner, helping manage US Banks 44,000 node network, stuff like that. Now I'm setting up and running multiple web sites, selling memberships and digital goods. Can be done anywhere you have a network connection.

RE: Anyone Working at Home Online Business?

My wife buys and sells collectible glass on ebay. She is an expert at this and so its very profitable. With the new feedback rules and PayPal hold backs I quit selling there about this time last year. The don't want the little seller and even PowerSellers are getting suspended now. Go read the e-bay community boards.

RE: Michlin XZA2 Energy Tires

Although I keep the pressures according to Michelin load specs, I sometimes wonder if It would be Ok to run a little less pressure because it has the heavier sidewall. The answer is NO, if you're using the correct chart. The charts are optimized for that particular size/ply rating and take the construction into account.

RE: Chassis GCVWR

A qualified hitch guy probably knows as much as GS does. Now that's funny!! :R GS woudl have structural engineers approve the design, doubt that a hitch "guy" would be able to do a stress analysis.

RE: Chassis GCVWR

Oh yes, the operater's manual also clearly says that anything being towed that weighs more than 1500 lbs needs its own brakes. That's a Ford requirement (same for Workhorse) but not a statement of law. But a very few states do have requirements for toads but it's not many states.

RE: Chassis GCVWR

Not only can you not exceed the GCVWR but in CA if what is being towed is over 1500lbs it is required to have brakes.Another wrong statement! When a MOTORIZED VEHICLE is being towed the unit is considered a "combination" and the rules for braking change. It then becomes a performance requirement (same for WA and OR). If you can stop in XX feet from XX mph then you don't need supplemental braking. But I wouldn't tow anything at highway speeds without brakes either.

RE: Catapillar or Cummins

Steve Ranking rebuilt at least the head on his MH (Cummins?) so some work is necessary at some point.

RE: Catapillar or Cummins

Either is good, finid the floor plan you and the DW like, however your choices will be limited at 35' as there are very few DP's in that short a unit. Maybe a FRED and then it'll be a Cummins.

RE: 1800 watt prosine

T-105's have NO "cranking" rating. They are deep cycle batteries and not suitable for a starting battery. Our 2000 W Xantrex has 4 Interstate U-2200's powering it, which are about the same as your T-105's (only twice as many of them for double the reserve). On our 2000 DSDP I was able to run the air con for a short time through the 2500 W Heart inverter (thanks to CW's wiring it wrong) using only 2 U-2200's but I didn't let it go very long either!

RE: FUEL PUMP PROBLEMS NEWMAR DUTCH STAR WORKHORSE GM

Moral of the story, don't run your fuel tank lower than 1/4 tank, the in tank fuel pump needs the fuel around it to keep it cool. This may or may not be your problem.I've heard this about Ford's also. My son burned out the fuel pump in his Dodge V-10 dually and they told him the same thing.

RE: Don’t buy State Farm RV insurance

As to the contents not being covered. All I can say is: Did you read the policy provisions when you bought the policy? If so then it should have been there, if so then you have no complaint about it now. but it does sound like they don't know RV insurance! But the advice to remove the hitch is good as they won't pay anything for it if they total the rig, just the depreciated book value which won't include the accessories either.

RE: Scratches

Without knowing what rig you're asking about it's impossible to answer. Gel coat? FBP (Full Body Paint)? Painted aluminum? Rough Filon? Etc.

RE: Shower now dumps to the Grey Tank, YEAH!

Companies do plumb the shower or the bathroom sink to the black tank for two reasons, one to get adequate water into it, and secondly because in general the grey tank fills up first. I would not consider it to be a mistake or defect myself. bumpy Exactly right, and those that say it's a cheap way out should consider the cost of the pump and wiring, that's not cheap and may even be more expensive.

RE: black lines appearing on rv ceiling

If you have a diesel it is something that happens. I had a 94 that had then at every 4 foot seam across the ceiling. You have to have moisture to have mold. If you have the fabric ceiling it can be cleaned. But if is's mold that won't keep it from returning or possibly making you sick! Sounds to me like there is a leak somewhere, until you find that and fix it (including removing the inside roof and cleaning the mold out) you won't get rid of it.

RE: Hydraulic Fan on continuously

The fan control was failing on our 2000 DSDP w/FL chassis. The fan would go from high to low to high to ... as we moved even at very low speeds. Later it failed completely and the fan didn't run at all. FL was able to tell me how to bypass the control so it ran at high all the time so I could finish the trip and get it fixed later. Might start with the fan control, I don't know where it would be on your rig though.

RE: Koni FSD shocks for Camelot

I have a 2004 Monaco Camelot and I am interested in Koni FSD shocks for it. I wrote to Koni by email and this is the response I got: We don't have shocks for the Camelot. The shock attachments are the same as their 8 bag suspension, but the max lengths are 1 1/2" to 2" shorter. That means if you use the koni shocks you might rip them apart. Sorry I couldn't help. This came from Justin McCoy at Koni. Anyone out there with the same coach able to use Konis? Why not just accept the factory reps statement and leave it at that? Using shocks that are too short is just asking for trouble.
